Through efficient and effective implementations of various tools of computational fluid dynamics, we are investigating fundamental physics of turbulence and its applications in environmental problems.
Particular emphasis is placed on the study of particulate turbulence such as particle-turbulence and particle-particle interactions, particle behavior in near-wall turbulence, and acceleration behavior. Relevant numerical methods such as a new explicit projection method for incompressible flow, immersed boundary method for complex flows, application of level-set method to droplet deformation are also developed. Direct applications of those methods to real environmental problems such as LES prediction of pollutant dispersion in real urban areas, contaminant transport in indoor environment, particle deposition in human lungs are also considered.
